This one is dedicated to a very good friend of mine, i love her so much! She has always been there for me, always supportive and kind! Thank you my darling so much!! I hope you like this one! If you haven't seen her work, please do. She is an amazing artist! I'm so lucky to have her as a friend!
I do like this piece, and if anything I might have cropped it down a bit , made it smaller, more compressed and threatening. There is a hint of malice in the sorceresses eyes, but its thrown aside by the luminescent butterflies. It seems too that there might be a bit more shadow on the butterflies or lack of detail on the wings as I see them as solid objects , so light should have a more difficult time showing through them . Technical detail too is that her hair appears to be covered by a cowl or hood, but streams out behind her. It is a distraction and becomes a point of focus in the piece despite it appearing as a shadow. Overall composition is good, but maybe the background shouldn't be as voluminous as it is as the central focus is the figure, staff and light fog in the background . Perhaps darkening the area around the figure would make it more, if you know what I mean as . There is a hidden light source too in the BG ..and it brings an air of mystery to this. Where is this light that coming through the fog, or is the staff the light source ? These are things to consider in new works, light has properties that are bendable, but its use can deepen or make certain things too prominent depending on how its used . In works such as yours, where details seem to be important in your works, make sure that everything is taken care of . In a juried show such things will male or break you if people know your works.
I like the mystery in this piece and the colors. They fit very well with the image. The lights are good, and the overall mood is one full of tension and secret. But there are a few things in this piece that are not done so well - and the first thing is the size of the butterflies. They look a bit to big comparing to the model. Making them a bit smaller would have made them look much more natural, and also adding a small motion blur near the wings since they are flying. Also, the hair in the left side looks a bit messy, but that's not something very annoying.
Otherwise, the lights&shadows, her eyes, the pose, everything is well chosen and the piece looks great.
